"Writing is a process like science just as much as art. There is trial, and there is error. There is heart, and there is soul. What there isn't is a lack of bravery. All writing is brave."

—Sterling MZ

About Sterling MZ

Sterling MZ (pen name for Sterling Hooker) has always loved the writing process. Whether academic, creative, or somewhere in between, she fell in love with writing well before reading. Her pieces range from screenwriting, nonfiction, short-form/blog articles, and fiction pieces—both literary and genre.

With bachelors degrees in English (creative writing) and International Studies, internships for the Bull City Film Festival and the Santa Fe Writers Project, and as an editor at Brown Books Publishing Group, Sterling has spent her professional career dedicated to finding and creating stories—and helping others do the same. Committed to her craft professionally and personally, Sterling spent 2023 writing one short creative piece a month to submit to literary journals and writing competitions. In 2024, she's furthering her career through freelance editing and writing to dedicate her time to more personal, professional growth: completing her novels to start an independent press, reading books on writing and editing craft, and pursuing an MFA program. She has been published in the North Texas Review and Havok. When she is not reading or editing books, she can be found driving all over DFW, spending time with her family and friends.
